A website is of no value if no-one visits it!  When you're planning your new website, you also need to consider how you are going to promote it.  Again, personal consultation can ensure you make the best job of promoting your site, but here's a few rough guidelines.

In general, you should aim to reference your website in every place you already promote your business, and in a few more ways beside.  This is what makes it so important to have a good, easily remembered domain name (we can give you assistance on selecting and registering an appropriate name).  Your domain name forms the root of both your web and e-mail addresses.  Here's some ways it can be publicised:

Stationery
Put your website and e-mail addresses prominently on your next batches of stationery / with compliments slips / business cards.

Brochure / catalogue
Again put your addresses prominently on your brochures / catalogues, and if appropriate make it clear what special information is on the website.

Official launch / Promotional card
Ensure that all your staff / clients / customers know about the website and what's on it so they can use it. A promotional card to go with the next mailout to your customers may be appropriate eg. 'have you seen our website: www.business-name.co.uk ?

Telephone answer message
Announce the website address for out of hours callers - they may be able to find the information they require without having to phone back.

In all e-mails
Make sure your web address is in all your e-mails - eg. as a standard banner which is hyperlinked to your website.

Search engine registration
Submit you website to a selection of the most popular search engines.  Before doing this you will want to tailor the 'keyword' and 'description' metatags for individual web pages.  For more information see www.searchenginewatch.com.

Links from other websites
Draw up a list of relevant organisations with websites who may be prepared to link to your website - and then contact them.  You may be able to arrange for reciprocal links.  Request a link from your entry in the on-line yellow pages yell.com and any other on-line directory relevant to your business.
